BOOST IMMUNITY AND BRIGHTEN SKIN WITH POMEGRANATE

The healing properties of pomegranates have been known since the days of Ancient Greece and Rome - but the ability to boost immunity has been kept quiet. The fruit, which grows on an ornamental shrub known as Punica granatum in fall and winter months (or summer rainfall climates), is about the size of a small grapefruit and is covered in a dark-red, spongey skin. Once peeled, the pomegranate fruit is filled with hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of the tart, jewel-like seeds we know as pomegranate seeds, which are technically berries.

Pomegranates are touted for their high concentration of antioxidants and vitamin C, nutrients that support healthy circulation, boosting immunity and fighting cancer-causing free-radicals. In fact, pomegranate extract has been proven to contain three times the antioxidant concentration of red wine and green tea alike—due to the presence of powerful antioxidants known as punicalagins. These molecules are naturally anti-inflammatory, helping the body to maintain healthy digestion, stabilize blood sugar, and support joint mobility.

A natural skin regenerator

The potent antioxidant activity in pomegranate extract also has major benefits for maintaining skin health, and on a variety of levels. The high concentration of vitamin C and other antioxidants help to prevent cell damage, and support cell regeneration and renewal. Specifically, pomegranate extract contains phytochemicals that help extend the life of cells known as fibroblasts, which produce collagen and elastin, both responsible for skin elasticity.

Furthermore, another recent study has even shown that pomegranate extract may even stimulate the production of collagen itself, meaning that it helps the skin repair any fine lines and wrinkles by regenerating collagen on its own, naturally. At the same time, pomegranate extract is also a natural antimicrobial and antiviral, and even has been shown to protect against UVA and UVB-induced damage.
